Meet the Team - Brian McCurry

Meet the Team: Get to know Brian McCurry, Executive Pastor at Wellspring Community Church.

Enjoy a quick Q&A with one of our Wellspring Pastors.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself?

A: I grew up in South Carolina and North Carolina, but now consider the Memphis area home. My wife Betsy and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary this past summer and took an amazing trip in October to Central Europe where we first met. We have three awesome young adult kids and a wonderful daughter in law who has joined our family. Ben and Kaitlyn live in Knoxville, Bailey is in Nashville, and Brooke is a student at UT-Knoxville. Our family is literally spread all across the state of Tennessee.

Q: What’s your favorite moment on Sunday mornings?

A: Can I have two? The first is seeing the body serve in all the ways they are gifted. Wellspring is blessed to have so many people who contribute their gifts, talents, and time on our Sunday mornings. The second is receiving a steady dose of God’s word we receive each week when we meet. God’s word is living and active and provides daily bread for my walk with the Lord and for us all

Q: What song is at the top of your playlist right now?

A: I’m not a big music guy, although I love singing when we meet together on Sundays! At the top of my listening list would be several podcasts - Memphis Grizzlies, fantasy football, and current events.

Q: What interests or hobbies dominate your free time?

A: Cooking BBQ for my friends and family would be my favorite hobby. I have 7 different smokers, grills, or cookers. Think about it - does a wood worker only have one tool in their toolbox? I’m also a big sports guy and enjoy keeping up with my favorite teams and sports - the Grizzlies, Clemson, college and pro football, and the NBA. I’m also a big Marvel movie and TV show fan. I’ve seen pretty much everything Marvel there is to see.

Q: Best book you’ve read lately? Or podcast? Or movie?

A: The Men’s D Group that I lead is currently reading Confronting Christianity, by Rebecca McLaughlin. The book dives deeply into many of the obstacles that modern skeptics may view as roadblocks to believing the Christian faith. It’s a challenging read and has encouraged and equipped me in my own faith and ministry to others.

Q: What’s a favorite Wellspring memory?

A: Oh - so many! I’ll share one from this past year… This past summer, I attended and helped serve at our Student camp in Florida. I recall one night walking down to the beach after everyone else was already there worshipping at our portable beach chapel. I had an incredible view from the boardwalk of 50+ of our Wellspring family gathered and worshipping together. It made me so grateful to the Lord that God had in His heart the birth and growth of our sweet church.

Q: What are you most excited about for Wellspring?

A: I’m excited this year to see how God will use us in new ways to fulfill His Great Commission around the world. I get to be a part of our first “official” missions team going to Guatemala in March. I’m pumped for that trip! That trip upcoming plus the international trip Betsy and I took this fall makes me eager to see more and more opportunities for Wellspring to go serve together to the ends of the earth!
