“Called to Serve” - Deacons at Wellspring
What is your favorite fast food restaurant? Based on the drive thru lines in Germantown, TN, my guess is that Chick fil A is one of everyone’s favorites! Why is CFA a favorite? The food is good and the quality is exceptional. But at the end of the day, (sorry y’all) it’s fried chicken and French fries. What makes it stand out?
I would propose it’s the service. CFA stands out in its service because they make it a priority.
Chick-fil-A’s philosophy of service is rooted in "servant leadership" and what they describe as "second-mile service.” Their aim is to create memorable, caring experiences (not just serve food). The founder, Truett Cathy emphasized hospitality over sheer duty. The signature, “My Pleasure” response emphasizes a spirit of service rather than just a transactional duty.
A "spirit of service" is what we see in the biblical role of Deacon.

God’s Heart for the World
Flash back to 1994…. I was a college junior heading on a plane on my first overseas mission project. I was looking out of the plane window at the Atlantic Ocean below and two significant truths hit me:
The world is much bigger than anything I had ever experienced.
God is much bigger than anything I had ever experienced.

A Sacred Grief
In light of the tragedies and violence that have occurred over the past few weeks, I have had a tough time processing words to say and knowing what to offer you all as care. In seasons of tragedy, we can often struggle for words.
WE Are The Church
Moving anywhere brings about so many emotions. There's excitement for all of the new things, some anxiousness for the unknown, and some sense of loss from the people and place you may have left.
Our Church Doesn’t Need More Volunteers
A few years back, I heard this quote from Mike Breen, a church planting guru from the UK, "A volunteer is someone who executes someone else’s vision. A leader is someone with a vision of his or her own." It struck me.
As one who has literally worked for decades to mobilize "volunteers" to fruitful ministry, I was struck by the difference that Mike articulates between a volunteer and a leader.
A volunteer is someone who executes someone else's vision.
A leader (and I would add "servant" leader) is someone with a vision of his or her own.
