WE Are The Church
By Pastor Brian McCurry
Moving anywhere brings about so many emotions. There's excitement for all of the new things, some anxiousness for the unknown and some sense of loss from the people and place you may have left. You may be feeling all of those things simultaneously as we prepare to move our Sunday location from Riverdale to St. George’s.
Since Betsy and I have been married, we've moved from one city to another 6 times. That's a lot! When we from Memphis to North Carolina in 2008, we knew it was God's call for us to go there. As time went on, it became clear to us why God moved us there. And on top of it all, we missed Memphis!
We didn’t just miss the city, we missed the people - our friends. Some are are a part of Wellspring with us now. Memphis became and remains home for us because of the people God has brought us to live together in Christian community.
One of my Christian mentor’s in college, Chris Lipp , used to say this, "It's not where you are, it's who you're with.” He taught me that in the context of mission trips we took together, but I have also found it to be true in the local church.
So, as we move Sunday locations from Riverdale to St. George’s, I want to share some encouragement to us - WE are the church. That's Monday through Saturday and on Sundays as well. We, the people of Wellspring, are the church no matter where we live, work, play, serve or worship.
We all experience Wellspring as a Christ-focused, loving, warm, healing church because of the Lord and because of it's people. That doesn't change with a new Sunday location.
In fact, this move to a new Sunday location was to only grow the beauty of our church - both to serve us better as a church family when we gather on Sundays and to provide space for our friends who will connect to our community and to Jesus in the days and months to come.
So be encouraged.! By God's gracious hand, WE are Wellspring no matter where we gather. WE are the church!
